Our Horizon Europe project BLOOM joined forces with 11 other EU-funded initiatives to co-organise the EU Raw Materials Week side event “Crossroads of Innovation: Shared Challenges and Joint Solutions in Raw Materials.”

The goal: create a shared space where projects, industry, and policymakers can align efforts and accelerate innovation across the raw materials value chain.

Ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials (CRMs) is essential for Europe’s green and digital transition. Yet, projects across the value chain face similar obstacles that slow down progress and prevent promising solutions from scaling.

The workshop brought together experts from different Horizon Europe projects and related initiatives to:

  • Present implementable technical solutions developed across EU-funded projects,
  • Identify bottlenecks—technical, environmental, regulatory, economic, and social,
  • Explore synergies between primary, secondary, and advanced material value chains,
  • Strengthen collaboration between research, industry, and policymakers,
  • Generate actionable input for a joint policy brief and roadmap supporting EU strategic objectives.

This satellite event contributed directly to the discussion around key EU policy frameworks, including the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) and the Clean Industrial Deal.

The workshop highlighted concrete bottlenecks and solutions in CRM supply chains, supported open dialogue, and promoted a shared understanding of how to accelerate innovation.

We extend our sincere thanks to all co-organisers, speakers, and participants for their openness, expertise, and genuine spirit of collaboration.

We are also pleased to share that BLOOM was featured on screen during the breaks of the official EU Raw Materials Week programme—giving additional visibility to our mission and technological innovations.
